Charlotte, North FRIGGIN' Carolina Baby...

So now I'm killing time in North Carolina waiting 3 hours for my next flight...wonder if there's anything interesting to do here...

So, it's REALLY EARLY in the morning...I left about midnight to make a scenic trip to Baltimore...I stopped at a Waffle House somewhere halfway and got here at the airport around 4am. My flight leaves in a couple hours...it's so weird, I can't wait to be back in Greenville and even visit part of Indy...it feels like it's been years since I was last there. I guess it feels like that because it's been 5 years since I actually "lived" there. And now, I've been away living my own life for months...

New York with Kev and Brooke was a lot of fun, I already miss them and I hope the end up on the East Coast when their time at school finishes...we ended up going to a cool place called "Serendipity" made (more) famous by the movie of the same name...we sat in the room behind where John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale first meet...it was weird, right when I was walking through the door, Elizabeth called me...I told her where I was and she couldn't believe it...actually, when I look back on the last few months, I can't believe it either...it feels like I've been thrust into the movies of my childhood (and the rest of life for that matter) and I'm actually here...here on the East Coast in Southern Jersey central to NYC, Philly, Baltimore, DC, and so much...life is good...I'm going to try and sneak in a nap while I wait for my flight...pics of Serendipity are below...TGBGN...

Getting out of the rain...

So it has been an incredibly busy few weeks and I've had to archive my thoughts in my head until I get a chance to blog again.

Tomorrow I think Nick and I will be going to NYC to visit K-Masch and his girl, Brooke. That will be real cool, it seems like I haven't seen them forever.

In a few days I'll be flying back out to the midwest to see the fam and friends in Indy. That will be fun, but Indy is only cool in moderation, a couple days there and that will be my fill for a long time. I love the people I'm close to in Indy, but that place location wise is so draining.

After that, I drive out to Greenville to do a couple lectures and visit friends. Man, that place seems like home. I think it is where I really got a chance to become "me". There was no parental pressure and no preconcieved expectations, just me reinventing myself. I can't wait to talk and hang out with Dr. J again. Thanks to the Catlins for the ride and Mr. Dan Wolfe (honorary Asian) for the roof...

A few weeks ago, I was working at the Delaware Arts Summit and tearing down after the event was over. Most of the truck was loaded and I was standing outside waiting for the last big piece to come out so I could strap it up and take it back to the warehouse. I waited for a long time and no one came. It was raining, so I was soaked and it was kind of cold, but I didn't want to leave so much equipment unattended. I was banking on the fact that the last guys that left would be bringing what they said they would so I could finish up this packing job. What I didn't know was that those guys changed their minds and went to dinner while I was waiting outside. One my co-workers, Adam, who was working with another group of packing jobs came out to check on my truck and saw me waiting. I guess I was pretty pathetic looking, I was drenched and just standing there. Then Adam (in his deep Philly/New Yorker accent) said to me, "Come on Rod, get out of the rain, they're not coming back." I hesitated, but I decided to lock up and follow Adam in. No one in my crew really felt bad about leaving me out there. So as upset as I was, I tried to dry off as much as I could and realized something. It feels like people have been telling me that most of my life. "Rod, get out of the rain." I appreciate those that cared enough to tell me that. I'm glad I finally listened. So now I'm on the East Coast and so much happier.

Recently, I have been watching some great movies. I think everyone should take the time this week and watch these three movies, one each night for three nights. Start with good and end with classic. At the end of the three days, you'll be a better person.

Day One: The Truman Show (Jim Carrey)

Day Two: Jerry McGuire (Tom Cruise)

Day Three: Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks)

So that's all for now, I'll write more later. Now off to a murder mystery tear down...take care, for those of you on the East Coast, I'm playing Bean's Coffee House in Woodstown, NJ tonight at 8pm...see ya there!
