42 Questions...

So I’m waiting on the next stage of my current work and projects, so I’m going to do this but also expand some of the answers to be more long winded and detailed for those of you that like that kind of thing…others may just want to skip this now... ;)

Welcome to the new edition of getting to know your friends. Okay here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be lame andspoil the fun! Just copy (not forward) this entire e-mail and paste into a new e-mail that you can send. Change all the answers sothat they apply to you. Then send this to a whole bunch of people you know, INCLUDING the person that sent it to you. Some ofyou may get this several times-that means you have lots of friends!

1. What is your full name? USA: Rodney Seong Kim, Korea: Kim Seon Min – Rodney was the name of a stripper my mom knew, so I was named after him and my brother, Peter, was named after the Apostle Peter, guess maybe my parents had different expectations for each of us? Seong is a derivative of my Korean name, “Kim Seon Min” and Kim is of course my family name. Kim Seon Min was the name given to me by my grandfather, but my US birth certificate reads “Rodney Seong Kim”

2. What color pants are you wearing now? Dirty Khaki Shorts…I work at a live sound company, so I have to look decent, but I have to get dirty. So the nice thing about dark khakis is that most times, unless they are completely filthy, you have to look close to see they’re dirty. All that to say I’m in my work clothes and I’ve been working all day.

3. What are you listening to right now? Nothing right at this moment, but I’m an iPod guy…if I do listen to radio, it’s usually FREEFM with Barski or something…just for kicks and giggles, here’s the Top 10 most played songs on my iPod:
1. Learning to Fly (Tom Petty)
2. Let Me Be (demo) (Tara Vanzanten)
3. We Shout (t.A.T.u.)
4. Goodnight Elisabeth (Counting Crows)
5. Best I Ever Had (Vertical Horizon)
6. Silent All These Years (Tori Amos)
7. Photograph (Nickleback)
8. Gomensai (t.A.T.u.)
9. Man (Elton John)
10. Sleeps with Butterflies (Tori Amos)

4. What was the last thing you ate? Veggie Burrtio from Moe’s. Weird trivia: I’m not a vegetarian, but I like lots of different vegetarian alternatives! Gardenburger is one of my favorite foods!

5. Do you wish on stars? Sometimes, but I’m Wishing Well guy. Trivia: I carry nothing but pennies as change in my pockets. Every time I pass a fountain I have to throw one in, I make one or both of the same two wishes every time…if they ever come true, I’ll say what they are.

6. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? If I were my favorite color, I’d be a bright blue. If I were a crayon by ethnicity, I’d be yellow ;)

7. How is the weather right now? B-E-A-utiful! Spring in the East Coast rocks!

8. Last person you spoke to on the phone? Elizabeth Lee…just briefly, we both had to go…weird, it’s the first time we didn’t talk so long that one of our phones died.

9. Do you like the person who sent this to you? Jacie’s the bomb… ;)

10. How old are you today? 23…I think…I totally lost track at 21…

11. Favorite soft drink? This is weird, but it’s Diet Twist Up (the Wal-Mart brand Diet Sprite) I used to never drink carbonation, but something after college got me started.

12. Favorite sport? I still love tennis, even though it’s been close to a year since I’ve last played.

13. Hair color? Black as night. When I was in college, I would periodically bleach it and then it would be kind of a bright orange/red…

14. Siblings? Older – Kyung Soo, Younger – Peter

15. Favorite Food? Tie between Italian and Tex-Mex, funny I hate take out Chinese, but my favorite food to eat out is Panda Express!

16. What was the last movie you saw? In theaters? The last movie I watched was High School Musical…the last movie I saw in theatres was The Davinci Code. Random personal opinion spot: I’m a Christian, and if you’re a Christian too, you can choose to like this movie or not, but don’t waste time fighting it saying it’s threatening to the religion. It’s JUST FICTION, there are millions of people suffering everyday around the world, wars breaking out, homeless on the streets and priests butt-raping altar boys…of all the things to worry about, forget the f***ing movie! I’m just picturing God and Jesus up in Heaven watching The Davinci Code on a multiplex in the sky talking about how talented Tom Hanks is and how disappointed they are in the church mobs for ignoring the real problems in the world.

17. Favorite day of the year? I HEART X-MAS! I start celebrating in July! I love the atmosphere, the snow, Times Square, the movies, everything…When I was in college, the primary lighting in my dorm rooms year round were always Christmas lights. When I was stressed I’d make paper chain decorations from construction paper. One year, I covered my entire ceiling!

18. What was your favorite toy as a child? Hard to say…I suppose this little electric piano with a record player attached.

19. Summer or winter? Hmm…hard to say, but there is something about Winter that feels magical for me, maybe because I associate it with Christmas.

20. Hugs or kisses? I’m a hugger…

21. Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla, although one of my favorite drinks is chocolate coke! (Thanks Pamn!)

22. Do you want your friends to email you back? Doesn’t matter, I’m probably busy anyway.

23. Who is most likely to respond? Dunno, besides Jacie, I don’t know if I know any of you!

24. Who is least likely to respond? Hitler.

25. What happend to question 25? Hitler.

26. When was the last time you cried? Jeb’s apartment, just after Amy dumped me a few years ago. Didn’t stop for a while. Much better now…

27. What is under your bed? The case for my mobile piano. That thing is a piece of crap…I need a new one!

28. Who is the friend you have had the longest? Elizabeth Lee…Columbus Blvd…wow…

29. What did you do last night? Watched High School Musical to see what all the hype was about, and watched the American Idol Finals.

32. What are you afraid of? Losing music and being alone!

33. Plain, buttered or salted popcorn? Fake movie theatre butter…oh yeah…

34. Favorite car? Eh, whatever runs…I think have Batman’s tank from Batman Begins would be really cool!

35. Favorite flower? I’m not a flower guy, but I was at a flower garden for a show I worked at and thought that daisies looked like the happiest flowers in the garden.

36. Numbers of keys on your key ring? 10 Keys, 1 LED Flashlight, 1 USB Flash Drive

37. How many years at your current job? 1 month short of a year.

38. Favorite day of the week? Friday

39. What did you do on your birthday? Nick’s mother took us out sailing in Baltimore and to dinner in the inner harbor…totally awesome.

40. How many cities have you lived in? Oh my, let’s see…I was born in Kokomo, IN, moved to Greentown, IN in Jr. High, moved to Greenville, IL for college…on my summer breaks from college I lived in South Windsor, CT and Nashville, TN…after graduating I moved to Woodstown, NJ and this last march I moved to New Castle, DE…so I guess that’s 7 cities.

41. Do you make friends easily? Normally I do, but for some reason, I’ve been so busy at work the last year, I didn’t really make any new friends…

42. How many people will you be sending this to? Jacie’s email list…hehe ;)

There are good people in the world...

So I am way tired because I just caught a midnight showing of X-Men 3: The Last Stand...but I just had to write. Aside from the movie being COMPLETELY AMAZING, I dropped my credit card at the ticket kiosk. A girl found it and called the credit card company. They forwarded her to my cell phone and I got a voicemail telling me she found it and not to worry. I didn't even know I lost it. At first I was a little nervous because I've had people use my credit and identity in the past...but this girl told me not to worry and to call her back. I left a voicemail (when I got out of the movie it was 2am) and called the credit card company's 24 hour line. I checked to make sure no other purchases were made and there weren't any! This card was laying next to an automatic movie ticket kiosk and all anyone has to do is stick the card in the machine and order tickets anonymously. But she didn't...she was honest. I think I'm buying someone lunch this weekend.

And now I'm going to bed feeling good...that there are good people in the world...

365 Days

So I had to write today even though I'm strapped for time. Exactly 365 days ago I graduated from college. It's amazing how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. A year ago I didn't know where I'd be and how I'd be doing the next month let alone the next year. But here I am sitting in my apartment on the East Coast on high-speed DSL updating my online blog and overjoyed to say that I'm happy. Life is busy, but that's always been the case and it has never slowed down...in fact, every step of the way it's only sped up. Just last night I was watching TV and eating dinner finally enjoying a day off and got a call to be in New York City within the next few hours. So, Nick and I picked up all the sound equipment at the office and headed up the NJ Turnpike on a red-eye drive to NYC. We ended up doing sound for VitaminWater's cooking contest. The CEO of the company and David Wright (of the NY Mets) were among the celebrity judges. The whole contest is endorsed by rapper 50 Cent and the finals in NYC next month will have international superstar Kelly Clarkson as a judge. Check out the competition at www.freelunchmoney.com.

Life has moved along. Wow...gotta love it. I remember walking in the line to get inside the auditorium to graduate and right outside the building, the professors (who were walking ahead of us) stopped and spread apart so us grads could walk between them. As we started to pass, they applauded us. I'm sure this is a standard practice at a lot of privaste schools, but I was really moved. And then I looked over at Dr. J and he just smiled at me and started clapping louder...I think I lost it right there. Thanks Dr. J, again...I can never thank you enough...for everything.

So where will I be another year from now? Who knows, but I can probably guess I won't be bored. I'll reflect more about this whole thing as the week goes on, but for now, this photo is still my proudest moment in life: newly graduated and with my greatest hero here on earth...

Sparky and the DaVinci Code

So it's getting late, but I'm trying to keep a habit of writing.

Well, tonight the film version of "The DaVinci Code" will debut in theatres and I'll probably be there. There has been so much controversy from the Christian camp about this book and film. Christians are arguing that there is confusion between fact and fiction. I think it's a horrible envy that they have not written or created something as great or better. I've been trying to listen to the Christian radio stations while I'm driving around for work, but I have to admit, it is very difficult. It just feels so robotic and out of touch with the world it's trying to reach. There are millions of lost people out there and somehow there is a crisis because someone wrote a fictional story.

On a lighter note, I've been hanging out after work the last week with my new pal Sparky. I was walking through the pet store the other day and this tiny little mouse was running around in the display. So long story short, I took him home with a cage and tons of other pet supplies. He's been good so far, very energetic, somehow he manages to run on his wheel sometimes 10 or more hours at a time. When I come home he hops into my hand and crawls all over. We'll see how we fare.

Time for bed. I'll write some more this weekend.

I Will Cling To The Old Rugged Cross And Exchange It One Day For A Crown...

I can't even remember when the last time I posted was, but here I am again...

I've been a bit frustrated lately, because I feel like I'm on a kind of writer's block...that is, not just writing songs, but "in the studio" as well. I can't get my music to sound right. Sometimes I fear that being away from such a rich musical community like Greenville has not allowed me to recharge my musical being. We'll see...maybe it's just a phase.

Other than that, I went to church this last Sunday. I was kind of scared because the church I was visiting is close, but it's kind of a TV-Church, there's 4,000 members. Surprisingly, even though the service was a bit long for me (nearly 2.5 hours!) I didn't even notice. The music was incredible and although I was a bit cynical of the preacher, she had a message that was right on the point, everything was true. I left feeling good, I think I'll go again and gradually rebuild my faith in the church.

Nick and I went to go see "United93" on Friday and it was a tear-jerker...I did almost get sick three times, but not because of emotions, the whole movie was from a handheld camera and was shaking around so much I was getting dizzy. It was weird, because I never get motion sickness. Aside from that, I remembered that whatever problems I may have in life, someone is dealing with situations much more difficult. I do suggest it to anyone that can see it.

The weird thing is, that I went to a link online and watched an indie documentary called "Loose Change 911". Granted I don't believe everything at face value, but it had some interesting content. Check it out if you have the chance. If even half of what this claims is true, then mankind has reached a new low on the largest scale. It's hard for me to swallow, and I really debated it through the day, but I came to the conclusion that I don't know enough about anything to judge. At the same time, whatever I think of won't change what actually is.

All this to say that one night I sat in my living room playing my guitar and singing praise songs and hymns. I was kind of bummed at the state of the world even if the documentary wasn't true...I started singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and I was kind of choking up anyway, but I got to the line, "I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it one day for a crown..." I lost it. I don't know why it hit me, but it was like the hope that someday, through all of the craziness and complications and world's selfishness, things will be okay. Even if you're not religious, the idea of bearing a cross is universal. Everyone bears a cross day-to-day...and the idea that someday we can not only lay down that cross, but exchange it for a symbol of royalty is amazing. So today, I will embrace my hardships with my blessings and put it down for a very undeserved, but very appreciated crown.

So, now I think I'm going to run down to Wawa and grab a late night hotdog and head to bed...

"I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it one day for a crown..."

Goodnight...
