Happy EST New Year!

So there's less than a couple hours left until 2006 is officially gone. This last year has been insane as usual, but I'm not going to complain, because someday it could all just stop. There are a lot of goals that I didn't accomplish and resolutions not kept, but in turn, a lot of different exciting experiences have brought themselves to me and I am content.

This year I saw some of my closest friends find the loves of their lives, including my best friend Jeb. I attended a lot of weddings across the U.S. and it was tiring, but joyful. Rewind a few years back, and I was at my good friend Cory's wedding. I can say I had a full life knowing that it included being able to stand as best man at both of my closest friends' weddings. I couldn't ask for more.

This year I lived on my own for the first time. I had my own apartment, without roommate(s), and paid all my own bills, rent, and owned all my own (new, non-Goodwill/Salvation Army) furniture. I'll be going in and out of different residences, but I like it that way...I'm a wanderer ;)

There are many other things I could talk about, but they are all in the posts previously...this next year I'll see so many other things and live so much more and I welcome it all with open arms. Welcome new year, write another page in this script...

Christmas in NYC!

Happy Bachelor Xmas!

Tomorrow I'm heading out to Jersey to spend the weekend at Nick's farm and then to NYC on Christmas Day. So that means tonight me and Thor (the hamster) had a bachelor pad Xmas...I opened up the gifts from my little brother and baked cookies...no seriously, I cooked without catching anything on fire! Gingerbread men and sugar tree cookies!

This was kind of a cool Christmas, it was the first Christmas tree I've ever owned myself. I also was able to donate to some charities and do some volunteer work this Christmas season and overall, I think it's been great.

My brother got me a few DVD's I've been putting off getting forever: Gladiator (Extended Edition), Karate Kid (Special Edition) and best of all, Pinky and the Brain Vol. 1!!! I'm almost finished with disc 1 of 4! Peter rocks...

You may have noticed that I'm on a different domain now. Long story, but my previous web hosting charged my credit card for a year's worth of service and then cancelled rodkim.com! Now it's lost in cyberspace! At first I was very upset, and I still am at the jerks that took off with my money, but I took it as a sign to start over. So I've kept my blog, but I'll be updating the actual website at the same time as I'm working on my new album project. So spread the word, rodkimrocks.com is the new rodkim.com!

Anyway, I'm fading, so it's time for bed, happy holidays everyone!

Lots of Catching Up...

So it has been quite a while since I last posted and I have a lot of catching up to do. Not just for all you loyal blog readers, but myself, I haven’t quite soaked in all of what has been going on lately.

Before Thanksgiving, I saw some great shows. Mostly stand-up comedy and it was great. Nick and I went to go see Sinbad do his show and it was HYSTERICAL. Not only was he clean, he was funnier than a lot of dirty comedians I hear. He spent about 75% of the show taking questions from women in the crowd about men. He claimed he could solve and problem in less than 13 seconds, and he did…it was great. After that I went with Rita (Nick’s mother), some of her friends and Adam from work to see Lewis Black. He was pretty funny, the parts that threw me off were when he got so flustered about something he would spit out nonsense syllables randomly. A few days after that I finally got to see Margaret Cho workshop some of her new material and that was a dream come true. Margaret Cho was really the only Korean star there was when I was growing up and was really a hero for me and kids like me. Granted, I don’t agree with all of her views or some of her jokes, the point is that she broke new ground for Korean-Americans in the entertainment industry. What made the show better was that it was at the end of a 72 hour stint in Dover, DE working with a large conference and being the sole technician at the event. A few days later I went with Nick, his brother Chris and mom Rita to see Kathleen Madigan (I’m not sure if I spelled that right) and I almost stopped breathing…she was absolutely hysterical.

A couple days after that I got in a car with Nick and Rita and drove to Indy to visit my folks and we spent a few days over Thanksgiving in the Midwest. I didn’t catch up with a lot of people because a.) I had company and b.) I made sure to focus on spending time with my family this time.

I need to mention that a couple weeks prior to this, my mother retired from over 20 years of service at Delphi/Delco and was bored. So, by the time we showed up to Indy, she had over two dozen side dishes made in addition to the main courses and force fed us every 3 hours. I am not even kidding. I was getting in the shower the 3rd day there and looked at myself in the mirror and saw that I had visibly gained about 10 lbs!

While I was back in Indy, I got Jeb and Dawn's wedding photos and was able to update their online photo album. I'm still so happy for them, and especially Jeb, after so many years he finally found happiness in a daily life with someone, how cool is that? Anyway, check out the updated album at: http://www.dawnandjebgothitched.com

Regardless, Indy was a good time and we made it back to the Northeast safely thereafter. Since being back, my car died while I was working on site at a client’s office. Lucky for me the client was AAA and I was in their parking lot and I got taken care of right away. My car made it back to the BEL office where I work and there Ron (our INCREDIBLE repairman/Vice Pres.) determined my alternator had choked. I went out and bought the part and he and Nick showed me how it went in. While we were at it, Nick showed me how to replace my fuel filter and we put an iPod interface in my car. I called it a combination of my car needing work anyway and a Christmas gift to myself. I’m getting an estimate soon to have it repainted (the trunk has severely faded) and I’m debating on getting just the trunk done or the whole thing in a new color. We’ll see what the costs are.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve decided when my lease is up in February, I’ll be moving into a bigger apartment with some roommates. This will free up some finances to overhaul Bonnie (my car, the Bonneville). In fact, that reminds me I need to write a letter notifying my landlords I won’t be renewing.

A few days ago I went with Rita and Chris to see The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s Christmas Extravaganza and it was AWESOME. I’ve been a big fan of Brian Setzer since before High School and it was incredible to see him and his orchestra live. It makes people like me want to practice more seeing so much music in one guy like Setzer. He plays guitar, sings and arranges for his band and orchestra, how incredible is that?

The last few days I spent in Princeton, NJ for work at another convention and was surprised to see such a charming little town there. I went out with some co-workers to a nice restaurant called “The Ferry House” and had some of the best mushroom risotto I’ve ever had. We left there last night and now I’m sitting at a women’s basketball game for Delaware State University running sound. Work shows no signs of slowing down in the foreseeable future (my work calendar is booked as far as I can see) but hopefully this game won’t go into overtime and I can get some rest tonight before the week roars on.

Good to catch-up, will write more soon, thanks for stopping by. ;)
